Contributing to the
Port Washington Light Station
The restoration of the Port Washington Light Station is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $165,000. Rebuilding the roof, restoring the brick exterior and renovating the interior of the building are all big-ticket items. There are many details that must be attended to, and because of the Light Station's status as a building on the National Register of Historic Places, this work must be done carefully so that it maintains the integrity of the building.
The Historical Society needs your help. How can you contribute?
1) Make a monetary donation to the restoration fund. The Port Washington State Bank has issued a $15,000 challenge grant that will match every dollar donated up to $15,000. That means that any donation you make will be DOUBLED. Effective March 1, 2002, Wisconsin Energy Corporation has announced another $15,000 matching grant, so any contributions received starting March 1 will be doubled.
The Light Station Restoration Project, with the assistance of the city of Port Washington, has qualified for a Federal Coastal Management Grant. Like the Port Washington State Bank Challenge Grant, is a Matching Grant. To receive these grants, we need to raise over $60,000 from generous donors.
Donations of $250 or more will receive permanent recognition. You may:
|Friend of the Light: $250-$999
Lamp Lighter: $1,500-$2,499
Assistant Keeper: $2,500-$4,999
Master of the Light: $10,000 or more
